A wide range of lessons (Kindergarten through Eighth grade level) enables learning or review to occur at each individual's current level.

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives: Base Ten Blocks

Grade: Second and Third

Subtraction with Base Ten Blocks - very visual. Reinforcement of regrouping concepts. Self- checking and shows regrouping algorithm.
Nice visual representation of Base Ten blocks. As you add a block, the numerical representation changes.

Grade: Second (First Grade - Third Grade)
Three money activities. Make a Dollar -use the basic coins to count up to one dollar (reinforcement activity). The self-correcting feature is useful (drag, drop & check). The images are a bit unclear, so we made a reference key to keep by the computer. Pay Exact Amount uses denominations over one dollar, with a variety of bills and coins. This could be used as an extension activity.

Matches digital clocks and analog clocks, with self-checking. It is nice for showing how the minute and hour hands move in sync because the hands of the clocks move. Kids who need reinforcement would enjoy this.

Noticing Egypt: Interpreting Images

Summary
Students build skills in interpreting images and their understanding of other cultures by examining Unitedstreaming videos of Egypt. Students write articles for a class book on Egypt, using screen shots from the video to support their main idea.
